CMS integration

Content management systems allow clients to maintain and update their own web sites. Developers are responsible for providing the integration required to achieve this, from developing reusable page templates to configuring WYSIWYG editors and modular functionality.

Problem solving

Thinking outside of the box is a key consideration for every developer. We are responsible for taking a client's requirements and implementing a solution which not only meets these requirements, but delivers a robust and quality solution designed for longevity.

The primary role of a developer is to write the code which underlies every web site, implementing the structure and functionality on top of which UI developers then construct the presentational layer that every visitor sees and interacts with.

From setting up development environments, to configuring stage sites in IIS and releasing live sites to the world wide web, the development team oversee each web site's development lifecycle from beginning to end.

The ability to confidently liaise with the rest of the team is imperative as a UI Developer — you need to be able to understand the requirements of all stakeholders and realise those expectations in code.

We use Sass for all of our styling. It gives us the flexibility and reusability that we need to create compelling responsive experiences.

Crafting HTML structure and semantics is still a massive part of any project. We use ARIA to support accessibility and build microformats in wherever possible.

The shift to responsive has helped us challenge the way we approach JavaScript. We're questioning every piece we write to make our sites as performant as possible.

Every site that we build is benchmarked against PageSpeed and YSlow. We focus on performance right from the get-go and it remains at the top of the priority list across the board so that our users get the best experience, fast.
